Final blog!!
Since the beginning of the semester my critical writing has improved a lot. I am much more confident in writing academic papers. The strategy that has helped me the most is the teacher review. The last paper over Dr. Faustus was the easiest for me to complete because I finally talked to Lindsey and figured out what I was doing wrong. The title lesson that we did in class was the most beneficial for me because now I know that when someone reads my title they can tell that I am an intellectual person. Also the finding sources lesson was very helpful. I feel much more prepared to write college papers then I did when first starting this class.

Poems
I did not like how the "Sexism" poem portrayed men. Yes it is true that there are some asses in the world that this would actually be true for, but most people have a heart. I also didn't see how a man's life is easier in Beyonce's song. I for one do not like sexism because it places things on genders that are not necessarily true.

"The Flea"
This poem seems to be about a man and a woman, who seem to be just newly married, and now have a baby on the way. I think that the "flea" or the child dies when being born and it kills the mother also during child birth. "And pampered swells with one blood made of two," this is what tells me she is pregnant (8). This sounds like they are but barley married,"Where we almost, nay more than married are (11).

Ending of Faustus
The ending of this story is very confusing to me. Faustus is begging for his soul to be taken to heaven but realizes that there is nothing that he can do. I think this is when Faustus realizes that he has screwed himself and is now damned forever.

class discussion
I can't speak for anyone else but I personally find the discussions in class to be my favorite part along with very helpful. When everyone talks in class i get to see whole new sides to stories. I also get to show other people what I see and I usually have a interesting twist. But overall the discussions get my mind thinking and they raise great paper topics.

Act 5, Dr. Faustus
In the beginning of this act Faustus is having a moral battle with himself trying to decide if he really wants to do these evil deeds. He is waving in his decision and concludes that God does not love him and he will make a new church for Belzebub. The good and bad angles appear trying to sway Faustus but the bad angle prevails when he mentions wealth because Faustus is greedy. Then Mephistophilis appears and Faustus signs his soul over to the devil for Mephistophilis's help. In the end of act 5 Faustus is just asking what he wants from Mephistophilis like a wife and knowledge.

Dr. Faustus Interpretation of End of Scene One
To me it sounds like Faustus, with the help of Valdes and Cornelius, is planning on taking over the world. They are planning to make everyone their personal slaves and defenders. Cornelius tells Faustus that he can focus on nothing but this magic. Then Faustus invites Valdes and Cornelius to eat with him and after he will learn the magic. I think that Faustus will learn magic and preform it but it will back fire on him.

Evaluation
This class has been very productive for me. I have learned many words through vocabulary and how to use such words. I have also learned how to critically read a story and deconstruct what the author is trying to get across in their story. I am currently trying to get the right way to critically write a paper and discuss everything needed to have a truly academic paper.

The Fall of the House of Usher
While reading this I found that it is in third person point of view and the setting is a dreary old house that belongs to the friend of the unnamed narrator. I think the fact that this story takes place in a creepy house gives it more intencity. Because of the houses effect on the story I think it is a very essencial part, without it the story would just get weird.

Presentation in Class
I really liked the way that we split up into groups and further dug into the stories to pull out reasons for how the authors wrote the way they did. I thought it was very helpful to see different view on the story and combine them with my own. I found it especially helpful using the vocabulary words in the presentation so then it helped me better understand how to use them and what they mean.

Discussion in class
I think that the discussion in class was very productive. It was kind of neat to see how even thought the races of Twyla and Roberta were never confirmed people made judgements about them. I also thought that it was interesting that we got to look into our own racism. I would say that I am not very racist but I do have strong feelings toward different ethnic people because of the things that I have personally seen in my life. I do not hold things against people because they are a certain race, but the weird thing is that a very high percentage of the time most of the stereotypes about certain races are true. Yes, there is always those who are exceptions to this but there is usually a majority that confirms the stereotypes.

Fake Twitter
After reading all of these fake Twitter accounts it really got me thinking. It got me thinking that these people have nothing to do with their time!!! It kind of ticks me off because I don't have time to do everything that I need to get done in a day and they have time to think up of random stuff to say about someone who their not.

metamorphesis
After reading this book for a second time I came to realize that it is not a completely worthless book. I believe that there is a lot of symbolism in this book and I don't quite grasp it all. I did look at the book in an entirely different perspective, I imagined that Gregor never actually turned into a bug and that he was human the whole time. It gave this book quite an interesting twist.

Paper Topic
I am going to write about the "government control" in WE. How the Benefactor is the all powerful god of the One State and controls people by removing parts of their brains. It is really the start of Dictatorship. I will talk about how little freedom the people of the One State had and how that, for the most part, kept them from rebelling.

Ending of WE
I think that the ending of WE is why it is not in a Canon. It was so boring, I was expecting a little more to happen. There was not enough action in D-503 getting his head worked on and him believing that the One State is all perfect again. Over all WE was not too bad of a book, but I hated the ending.

Why "One State" would suck
I really hate how in the One State people are not allowed to love. Love is what I believe holds this world together. Without love people have no connection to each other. People should be able to have love and make families in WE. Love is the center of very powerful things. It is better to love and lost, the to not have known love at all.

Reader-Response Strategies
Reader-Response Strategies can be included on any piece of literature. Critics use the information from other people who read the book to make other books better. Critics do not look at a book as being complete, instead they see it as the reader piecing together a puzzle as they read the story. This can be applied to WE because the readers get more and more information as the story progresses and are constantly trying to figure out where the book is leading them.

Comparing Literature to WE
Style - In the book WE, style plays a big part in how D-503 writes to us. D-503 often times does not complete his sentences he just ends them in the middle. This leaves us, the readers, to try to fill in the blanks with our imaginations. This also gives the story much more suspense and leaves many guessing.
Tone - This book has many tones depending on who's perspective you are looking at. D-503 seems to be confused a lot of the time, where as I-330 seems very confident in herself.
Irony - I think that there is a little irony in the fact that D-503, in the beginning of the novel, is really confident in himself and the One State, but as the book goes on he becomes less and less confident in himself and I predict he may become less confident in the One State as well.
Plot - I believe the plot of this story is to show us the so called "perfect world," but in reality I think we will find that it is not so perfect.
Characterization - This story is told in a diary form so then it feels like the narrater, D-503, seems real.
Setting - The setting is in the One State, a place in the future where everything in a persons daily life is scheduled to the T. In this place there in only one god and they call him the Benefactor. This world is supposed to be superior to todays world but I'm not so convinced.
Point of view - This story is written in 1st person point of view and read like a diary.
Symbol - I think that the teeth of I-330 is a symbol because she has sharp teeth like many predators do and she is praying on D-503. Also the elderly lady at the entrance to the Ancient House is Mother Earth because she had things growing from her.
Theme - I think that the theme of this story is going to be that we can not truly have a Utopia for everyone. One person's utopia my be another person's hell on Earth. Plus there will always be rebels in society trying to break free of the strict hold that the laws put on them.
